No Targets
Emission targets? Promises, promises...

The problem with targets

In the lead-up to climate talks various politicians promise that some future government of their country will reduce emissions.

This is better than nothing but could easily go the same way as a lot of other promises made by politicians.

A much better approach is to have international agreements specifying common actions for each country such as:

  • Standard carbon taxes.
  • Removal of fossil fuel subsidies.
  • Increased fossil fuel royalties.
  • Enhanced Feed in Tariffs for all renewable energy.
  • Escalating renewable energy quotas.

These commitments can easily and quickly be tested and governments challenged if they fail to keep up.
